What are the dates and times?
July 12 - 23. No classes on July 17 and 18. Hours are 9 am - 2:30 pm.

When is the audition day?
There will be no in-person auditions this year. Students will record video auditions to include on their online application. Please follow the directions on the Application and Audition pages. The deadline to apply is February 28. 

Who can apply?
Rising 9th - 12th graders who are in public, private or homeschooled within the counties of Frederick, Loudoun, Warren, and Winchester City.

What areas of study do you offer?
Classical guitar, theatre, visual arts or voice. Multi-talented students must choose one area of study for which to audition.

How much does it cost?
PAVAN is a tuition-free program funded by the State of Virginia and the Counties of Frederick, Loudoun, Warren, and Winchester City. 

What do the students get out of PAVAN?
Students receive two weeks of intense instruction and mentoring in their field by talented faculty who encourage students to grow beyond the limits of the traditional school year. Students are surrounded by like-minded peers.

What's the catch?
All students must apply online with their video audition by the deadline of February 28. The online Teacher Recommendation Form is due March 14. Attendance for the entire duration of the program, including the final performance, is required of all students. 

Is attendance really mandatory for the entire program?
Yes, yes it is. If your student is accepted to PAVAN, please do not schedule vacation, doctor's appointments or other events to overlap during PAVAN.

Where is PAVAN located?
PAVAN's summer program is held at Sherando High School in Stephens City, Virginia.

Is transportation provided?
Transportation IS provided for Loudoun and Warren County students. The bus schedule will be released by early June. Transportation is NOT provided for Frederick County or Winchester City students.

Any other policies I should know about?

  • ​All students must apply before the deadline.
  • All students must have a teacher recommendation submitted for them before the deadline.
  • Prior participation in PAVAN does not automatically guarantee an audition or acceptance in subsequent years.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to check with the PAVAN director to confirm that the application and teacher recommendation was received prior to the deadline.
  • There are no exemptions to applying and auditioning, even if a student has previously participated in PAVAN.
